Meeting Headquarters

The Monterey Conference Center complex is situated on Portola Plaza, within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, shopping areas, restaurants, and other attractions of downtown Monterey, California. Both the Portola Hotel & Spa and the Marriott Hotel are connected to the Monterey Conference Center, and each of the three buildings will be used for Conference functions. Many scenic and historic sites and championship golf courses are just a short drive away along the seacoast north or south of Monterey.

Hotel Reservations

The group rates for Conference registrants and the phone numbers for the hotels are as follows:

• Portola Hotel & Spa: $180/night (sgl/dbl), plus tax; tel: 888-222-5851 or 831-649-4511
• Marriott Hotel: $189/night (sgl/dbl), plus tax; tel: 831-649-4234

The room blocks filled up very quickly this year, and, as of March 20, no rooms were available at either the group rate or the U.S. Government per diem rate. Of course, a few vacancies may develop as reservations are canceled.  We suggest you call the hotels and inquire as to availability and price for the nights you require.  Be sure to ask about cancellation and early checkout policies.

If you are unable to obtain a reservation at the Portola or the Marriott, please contact either of the following local Monterey reservations services.  Be sure to mention you are attending the “Battelle Chlorinated Conference” so they can assist you in finding the hotel closest to the Conference site. Be sure to ask about cancellation and early checkout policies for the hotel(s) you are considering.

Travel and Local Transportation

Major air service is available into the Monterey Peninsula Airport, but flying into San Francisco International or San Jose International are other Options. If you are flying into San Jose or San Francisco, the Monterey Salinas Airbus (www.montereyairbus.com; 831-373-7777) can provide ground transportation from the airport to downtown Monterey hotels.  We urge you to call for a reservation and current schedule.  If you rent a car, the driving time is 2½ hours from San Francisco and 1½ hours from San Jose; parking fees are $15 to $19 per day at the hotels.

There are also nearby city parking facilities as a cost of $5 and up.  Note: the Conference cannot validate parking.
