Contact Conference Staff

To be considered for the program, prospective speakers should prepare and submit abstracts (maximum one page) as specified below. Abstracts are due July 31, 2009.

Content

See the program scope for an overview of the expected range of topics. Because several hundred abstracts will be received for review, each abstract must clearly and concisely outline the material being proposed for presentation. Include in your abstract the information the Program Committee will need to quickly comprehend the scope of the work, determine its relevance, and assign it to an appropriate platform or poster slot. Specify the contaminant(s) or stressor(s) addressed, the scale of the project (laboratory, pilot, or field), and anticipated project dates. Identify the scientific principles, technology, or combination of technologies being studied and discuss the results to date.  Case studies are encouraged. Preference will be given to those abstracts that provide a concise and thorough summary of the project objectives and results. Abstracts with a pronounced commercial tone will not be accepted.

Format

Abstracts must be in English, cannot exceed one standard-size page, and are to be submitted as Microsoft Word® files. See the example abstract for format specification.  The PDF version can be printed on any printer to accurately illustrate the desired final appearance.  The Word version can be used as a template—type each section of your abstract over the text in the corresponding section of the example abstract.

File Name

Save your abstract in Microsoft Word® 2007 (or earlier version).  The file name is to be constructed as follows:
Chlor_[Presenter’s Last Name]Abs.doc
For example an abstract submitted for a presentation to be given by someone who last name is Smith would have the file name and extension Chlor_SmithAbs.doc
If additional abstracts are submitted for the same presenter, use file names “Chlor_SmithAbs2.doc”, “Chlor_SmithAbs3.doc”, etc.

Submittal and Confirmation of Receipt

Use the online submittal form to submit the abstract; the form will require the information listed below. If it is not possible to submit your abstract via the submittal form, please e-mail the abstract to chlorcon@battelle.org and include the necessary information in the e-mail message, under the following headings. Receipt of the abstract will be acknowledged by e-mail within one week. Your abstract should be sent only once—please do not send a backup copy by mail or fax and do not resubmit the abstract electronically unless you have not received acknowledgment of receipt after more then one week.

Title of abstract. Should not exceed 10 significant words.

Corresponding/presenting author information. Name of the person expected to make the presentation at the Conference (i.e., the name given in bold italics on the abstract). This is the person to whom all correspondence will be addressed. Include all contact information—employer, street address, city, state/ province and zip/postal code (as applicable), country, telephone, fax, and e-mail address.

Coauthor address list. Full names of coauthors and contact information for each—employer, street address, city, state/province and zip/postal code as applicable, country, telephone, fax, and e-mail address. This information is required for all coauthors.

Placement preferences. To suggest the most pertinent subject areas, refer to the example topics and select up to three codes (e.g., 1.4, 6.2) or, if the abstract is being submitted at the request of a prospective session chair, state that person’s name. In addition, please indicate whether a platform (oral) or a poster presentation is preferred. Note: the author’s preference will be taken into account, but placement cannot be guaranteed.

Review and Notification

Abstracts received by the July 31 due date will be reviewed for technical merit and relevance to the Conference. When accepted abstracts are assigned to program slots, consideration will be given to the authors’ preferences regarding session and format (platform or poster), but final decisions on placement will be based on best overall design of the Conference program.  By November 30, a letter stating the decision on each abstract will be mailed to the corresponding/presenting author. If the abstract was accepted, this letter will state the platform or poster session to which it was assigned and will provide information on preparing the presentation.

Note: No financial assistance is available to support registration or other costs of attending the Conference. Because registration fees are the major source of funding for the Conference and a significant percentage of registrants will make presentations and/or chair sessions, all presenting authors and session chairs are expected to register and pay the applicable technical-program registration fees.

Questions about abstract submittal should be addressed to Gina Melaragno (chlorcon@battelle.org; phone: 614-424-7866).
