The Fifth International Conference on Remediation of Contaminated Sediments will be held in Jacksonville, Florida, February 2-5, 2009. Greg Marshall, Vice President for Remote Imaging at National Geographic, will give the opening presentation during the plenary session on Monday evening (February 2). The technical program (Tuesday through Thursday) will combine scientific and engineering advances with management frameworks and policies to achieve effective sediments remediation and environmental protection goals. Approximately 450 platform and poster presentations will be given in 41 specialized sessions. Four panel sessions will provide opportunities for invited experts and practitioners and the audience to discuss critical issues related to contaminated sediment management.

As of September 22, 2008, when the Preliminary Program was compiled, the program was full. However, abstracts will be considered for vacancies that may develop in poster sessions. To submit an abstract (maximum one page), send it by e-mail to sedimentscon@battelle.org and indicate that you would like to have it added to the waiting list. Specify the session you believe is appropriate and who the speaker would be. Provide contact information for the speaker and all coauthors.

Nine short courses will be offered on Monday morning and afternoon. The exhibits, welcome reception, and poster display will open at 4:30 P.M. Monday. Receptions and other meals offered throughout the Conference will provide attendees numerous opportunities to meet informally with one another.

The Conference headquarters, the Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel, is located alongside the St. Johns River in the city center. The Jacksonville area area provides many sightseeing, shopping, and dining options, including numerous inland and coastal wildlife areas, golf resorts, and historical sites.
