Disclosing Environmental Liabilities
On August 22, 2002, The Wall Street Journal ran an article detailing how investment houses with $13 billion under management are putting pressure on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to enforce regulations requiring companies to more fully disclose environmental liabilities.
Battelle is conducting a survey to evaluate how corporate America is responding to the SECs requirement, given that deriving reliable estimates of costs for environmental liabilities is often fraught with uncertainties. As members of prominent US corporations, you are invited to provide input into the survey.
- Do you believe that, within the next year, your company will consider changing the way environmental liabilities are disclosed?
- If yes, which organization within your company will initiate the change?
-
