Battelle is pleased to announce that
Dr. Martin Miller recently joined Battelle Marine Sciences Laboratory in Sequim, Washington, as Manager of the Coastal and Ocean Processes Technical Group. Dr. Miller brings over 20 years’ experience in the management of programs involving sediment dredging and disposal, coastal engineering, beach protection, remediation, and restoration. He specializes in coastal sedimentation, Arctic beach and coastal processes, port and harbor design, wave generation and propagation, and oil spill and pollution transport. Dr. Miller has managed physical oceanographic and ocean engineering research projects for offshore and nearshore construction and operations in Alaska, along the Pacific Coast, the North Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, for Exxon Production Research Company, Houston, Texas. Battelle Duxbury is pleased to welcome Stephen Emsbo-Mattingly to our Coastal Resources and Ecosystem Management team. Mr. Emsbo-Mattingly serves as a consultant in Battelle’s environmental chemistry group, where his primary responsibilities are environmental forensics investigations into the nature, extent, and sources of petroleum and coal-derived wastes at contaminated sites. Emsbo-Mattingly has over 10 years of environmental chemistry experience, specializing in forensic chemistry, risk assessment and source identification methods. Emsbo-Mattingly received his bachelor of science in Biology from Oberlin College and master’s in Environmental Science from the University of Massachusetts. Battelle is pleased to welcome Mark Guilmain to our Duxbury Quality Systems Operations. As Quality Assurance Coordinator, Mr. Guilmain is responsible for implementing Battelle’s quality system in the analytical chemistry laboratory. Mr. Guilmain brings seven years’ experience as an environmental chemist and previously provided technical support to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Division of Watershed Management as Quality Assurance/Control Officer. Mr. Guilmain works with Duxbury’s analytical laboratory management and staff to ensure technical excellence by auditing analytical data, inspecting laboratory procedures and reviewing standard operating procedures. Mr. Guilmain has a Bachelor of Science in Zoology with a minor in Environmental Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Mr. Guilmain may be reached via e-mail at guilmain@battelle.org.
