Battelle Partners with
Corn Growers
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), operated by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy since 1965, has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the National Corn Growers Association.
The research will involve the development of a new fermentation process to produce organic acids to be used as the foundation for production of a host of chemicals and chemical feedstocks. PNNL and the National Corn Growers Association are partnering to create new applications and markets for corn-derived biomass. This research also leverages the ability of PNNL to utilize biomass for the production of chemicals and other valuable industry products that are typically made from petroleum.
