Environmental Chemistry and Forensics Expert Re-Joins Battelle
Battelle is pleased to announce that Mr. John Brown has rejoined Battelles Coastal Resource and Environmental Management Product Line as a Senior Project/Program Manager in the Environmental Forensics division. He brings over 20 years’ experience in program management, analytical methods, and interpretative techniques for fingerprinting and allocation of hydrocarbon
contamination in the environment. Mr. Brown rejoins Battelle after serving as a Principal for the Environmental Monitoring and Analysis Unit at Arthur D. Little, Inc., where he was responsible for the overall program management and the technical supervision of the Environmental Chemistry and Forensics Unit. Prior to joining Battelle, Mr. Brown served as Project Manager and Principal Investigator for several programs in Alaska and the Arctic, where projects included the Exxon Valdez oil spill Natural
Resources Damage Assessment and the Minerals Management Services Shelikof Strait and Arctic Nearshore Impact Monitoring in the Development Area Programs. Mr. Brown received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Hobart College. He can be reached at (781) 895-4847, brownjs@battelle.org.
Battelle Welcomes EIA Expert
Battelle is pleased to announce that Ms. Patience Whitten has joined Battelles Coastal Resource and Environmental Management (CREM) Product Line as Practice Leader for NEPA/EIA/Planning. In this role, Ms. Whitten will draw upon her 14 years of experience in environmental impact assessment to direct CREMs regulatory environmental assessment activities. Ms. Whitten has extensive technical expertise in evaluating the environmental impacts of large-scale development projects. Prior to joining Battelle, Ms. Whitten worked as an environmental specialist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 1, in Boston, Mass., where she managed the environmental appraisal of numerous industrial, energy, transportation, and marine-related projects. She has also led several international EIA training missions in Eastern Europe and South Asia and, more recently, evaluated Jordans environmental management regime for the U.S. Agency for International Development in preparation for Free Trade Agreement initiatives. Ms. Whitten received a masters in law and diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, a masters in marine affairs from the University of Southern California, and a bachelors from Grinnell College. Biotech Expert Joins Battelle
Battelle is pleased to announce that Dr. Linda L. Lasure has joined the Environmental Technology division at the Battelle-operated Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington.
Dr. Lasure is a recognized expert in the field of biotechnology, and she is leading fungal research activities as part of Battelles Bio-based Products Initiative. She is especially noted for her expertise in the field of eukaryotic organisms in fermentation and enzyme discovery, deriving key components from filamentous fungi used in the development of antibiotics and other essential drugs and industry products.
Before joining Battelle, Dr. Lasure was founder and president of Lasure and Associates Inc., in Seattle, Wash., a business development and consulting company providing services to the biosciences industry. She earned her bachelors degree in biology/chemistry at St. Cloud State University and her doctorate in genetics at Syracuse University.
