Air Expert Joins Battelle
Dr. Ryan James recently joined the Atmospheric Sciences and Applied Technology Department of Battelle. Dr. Jamess research focuses on environmental analytical chemistry. He has studied the air-water exchange of toxaphene, a chlorinated pesticide, over Lakes Michigan and Superior and the long-range atmospheric transport of toxaphene from the southern U.S. to the Great Lakes region. Since joining Battelle, Dr. James has been developing an analytical method to measure polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans that are emitted during the incineration of brominated flame-retardants. He is also reviewing polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin and furan high resolution mass spectrometry data, interpreting the results, and writing reports.
Dr. James received his doctorate in analytical chemistry from Indiana University and his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota-Morris. He is a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and was recipient of a 2001 ACS Graduate Student Award in Environmental Chemistry from the ACS Division of Environmental Chemistry. Dr. James can be reached at (614) 424-7954, jamesr@battelle.org.
