Five-Year Monitoring Re-bid

water plant For the third time, Battelle has been awarded Massachusetts Water Resources Authority’s (MWRA) Harbor and Outfall Monitoring contract. Over the next five years, Battelle will provide field, analytical, and data management services to MWRA for its Outfall Monitoring Program, which is the largest program of its kind in the U.S. The program is part of a mandate to clean up Massachusetts’s Boston Harbor. Battelle will continue to monitor the effects of discharge from MWRA’s new outfall pipe, which releases effluent through a 9.5-mile ocean outfall into Massachusetts Bay rather than Boston Harbor. The outfall went on-line in September 2000. Under this new contract, Battelle will continue to oversee and implement a comprehensive field program for the collection and analysis of water column samples, benthic sediments, and fish and shellfish samples, nutrient sediment flux, virus and fecal coliform. Battelle will also maintain and manage MWRA’s central database and facilitate rapid data turnaround to adhere to a tight reporting schedule.

$5 Million SPAWAR Contract

From the Environmental Sciences Division of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR), San Diego, Calif., Battelle was awarded a five-year, Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) “Perform Analysis/Studies in Marine Chemistry” contract. This contract will be facilitated through Battelle’s Carlsbad, Calif., regional office, the latest regional expansion in Battelle’s growing network of California offices. Under this $5 million contract, Battelle expert oceanographers, data management specialists, and chemists will provide SPAWAR with analytical chemistry services, deepwater oceanography services, marine ecological consulting, ecological risk assessment, aquatic toxicology support, and scientific equipment development.

City of San Francisco
Contract Win

San FranciscoBattelle has been awarded a $600,000 sediment sampling, characterization, and disposal consultation services contract from the City of San Francisco Department of Public Works. The contract includes provisions to reach an estimated $1.2 million in sediment related work. Under this two-year contract, Battelle will conduct ecological risk assessments, develop total maximum daily loads (TMDLs), conduct dredged material planning and testing, and provide expert support in environmental cases. Battelle will also provide physical, chemical, and biological analyses in support of sediment investigations. Battelle’s Carlsbad, Calif., office will direct and facilitate this contract.
