Battelle Wins $22 Million Pollution Prevention Contract

Battelle offices worldwide will support the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as it formulates and assesses options for advancing pollution prevention (P2) in the 21st century. Under a $22 million contract, Battelle scientists and key consultants and subcontractors will work with the Pollution Prevention Division within EPA’s proposalcoverOffice of Pollution Prevention and Toxics to address a host of challenges. These include balancing economic and environmental requirements, expanding efforts to small and medium-sized businesses, and advancing more comprehensive P2 approaches, such as sustainability and industrial ecology.

Initial work is expected to focus in four areas: persistent bioaccumulative toxics, sustainable business practices, environmentally preferable purchasing, and technical assistance to pollution prevention grant programs.
