Environmental Conferences

Battelle is organizing three major international environmental remediation conferences for 2001.

The Sixth International In Situ and On-Site Bioremediation Symposium, will be held in San Diego, Calif., from June 4-7, 2001. The symposium focus is on the use of biological processes to remediate soil and groundwater contamination and to treat industrial waste.

More than 600 platform and poster presentations will be given in 55 sessions, and nine short courses will be offered. Erin Brockovich, a noted environmental activist, will offer the keynote address at the plenary session. Dr. Andrea Leeson and Dr. Victor Magar of Battelle are the Symposium co-chairs. Requests for printed copies should be addressed to biosymp@battelle.org.

Wetlands and Remediation: The Second International Conference will be held Sept. 5-6, 2001, at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center in Burlington, Vt. The conference’s goals are to bring wetlands and remediation experts together to discuss common issues related to cleaning contaminated wetlands and using wetlands, both natural and constructed, for treating contaminated ground-, surface-, and wastewater. Speakers at the plenary session will include Dr. Jean-Paul Schwitzguébel of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne; Dr. Barry Warner of the University of Waterloo; and Dr. John Pardue of Louisiana State University.
