Geneva Battelle Geneva Welcomes

Dr. Carlo Monti, a biologist with a research doctorate in environmental sciences, has joined Battelle Geneva’s Environment and Analytical Chemistry department, both as a research scientist Carlo Montiand as a member of the Italian marketing team. He brings to Battelle 14 years of environmental consulting experience focused on limnology, specifically contaminant freights in river basins and sediment properties, including the assessment of risks arising from sediments for human health and ecosystems. Prior to joining Battelle, Dr. Monti was Technical Director of GRAIA, Varese, Northern Italy, managing a number of projects involving sediment restoration, river basin management, and environmental impact assessments in Italy and other countries. For the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was a consultant in water quality assessment and basin management planning for the Bio-Bio river in Chile.

Marco PelleiThe Geneva laboratories also welcomes Marco Pellei, who joins Battelle as a graduate environmental engineer from the University of Pavia, Italy. Mr. Pellei’s prior experience was in the environmental impact of offshore fossil fuels, sediment collection, aspects of risk assessment, quality management, and data reduction. He currently updates the quality management procedures, participates in monitoring campaigns, and continues to work on environmental risk assessments.Chiara Norelli

Chiara Norelli has joined Battelle as a junior researcher in the environmental analytical laboratories after completing her master’s work at the University of Geneva. Ms. Norelli’s thesis was on: “The Determination of DDT and its major metabolites in soils and sedimentsHeliana Kola .”

After obtaining her M. Sc. in chemistry on hydrocarbon analysis in detergents, Heliana Kola continues as a part-time staff member while pursuing her doctorate at the University of Geneva.

Nadia Plata

Dr. Nadia Plata, obtained her Ph.D. at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic Institute of Lausanne with a dissertation on phytoremediation of oil-polluted soils, taken from Battelle’s work for Agip at Trecate, Northern Italy. The Agip project constitutes one of the first realistic field studies ever performed on this subject.
