In April 2009, the United Kingdom's Department of Energy and Climate Change awarded a contract to a consortium made up of Serco, Battelle and the University of Manchester to manage the UK's National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL). The laboratory is a nuclear technology services provider. The business specializes in providing customers with tailored solutions in a number of key areas, including nuclear science, waste and residue management, plant process support, modeling and simulation, and environmental management.
