Rear Admiral Fred Byus, USN (Ret.), has recently joined Battelle as Vice President, Navy and Special Operations Market Sector after completing a distinguished career with the United States Navy.

 

In this new role, he will have leadership responsibility for providing high-value, affordable, technology-based solutions to Navy and Special Operations customers and their suppliers.

 

“Fred brings a deep understanding of the technology needs of America’s naval forces, and he is the ideal leader to further enhance Battelle’s impact in this important national security market,” said Pete Hennessey, VP for Business Development for Battelle’s National Security Global Business. 

 

While on active duty, Byus held key operational positions as Commanding Officer of USS Tautog (SSN 639), Commander, Submarine Squadron Seven, and Chief of Staff, U.S. Seventh Fleet.  His shore assignments have included the Attack Submarine Branch, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Chief of

Joint Staff Program and Budget Branch, and the Director of Operations and Executive Assistant for the Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet.  Most recently, he served as the Oceanographer and Navigator of the Navy.

 

He received a B.S. in Marine Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Master of Engineering Management from George Washington University, and is a graduate of the National Security Management course at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.

 

He has received numerous awards with the Navy including the Legion of Merit, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.

 

RADM Byus will be based in Battelle’s Crystal City office.
