Battelle announced today that Barbara Kunz has been appointed President of its Health and Life Sciences Global Business (HLSGB).

HLSGB is one of Battelle’s four global businesses. HLSGB focuses on delivering a comprehensive set of R&D services that solve complex challenges focused on the biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceutical markets, and public health sectors.   Battelle oversees more than $200 million annually in health and life sciences-related work, contributing to advances in drug discovery and development, environmental and public health research, medical device technology, pandemic preparedness, and regulatory toxicology.

In her new role, Kunz will join the executive leadership team and will be nominated to be elected a Battelle corporate officer by the Board of Directors.  Kunz joined Battelle in January 2007 and has been working as Vice President, Strategic Planning and Business Development to support the creation and execution of Battelle’s strategic plan.   She has played a leading role in assisting the HLSGB leadership team to develop and implement a strategy that promises to impact significantly Battelle’s position in the dynamic markets comprising HLSGB.

Kunz was trained as a polymer chemist and started her career at PPG Industries.   Establishing herself as a scientist and publishing multiple patents, she assumed commercial roles of increasing responsibility at ICI, DuPont, and Fisher Scientific International that culminated in her serving as Senior Vice President and General Manager at Fisher Biosciences, where she was responsible for setting the vision, and developing and executing the strategy for Fisher Scientific International's suite of proprietary chemistry-related products and services.  

Kunz has more than 20 years of experience in executive leadership roles; she has a track record of leveraging technology to advance strategy and business development initiatives.  Kunz brings rich experience in building high-performance teams that utilize science to open and grow markets worldwide.
