Columbus, OH--The Analytical Laboratory Managers Association (ALMA) elected Battelle's Greg Bowen to the post of President Elect at its recent annual conference in Portland, Oregon.

Bowen, a manager of the Analytical Chemistry Group in Battelle's National Security Division, will retain the post through 2007, and then serve as President of the Board of Directors in 2008. He has been on the board of directors since 2000.

The ALMA is a non-profit professional association for managers of analytical chemistry labs in industry, government, and universities throughout the world.

Bowen, 44, has worked for Battelle since 1992 and is a former U.S. Army Chemical Corps officer. While leading an analytical chemistry group that grew from 5 to 85 chemists at Battelle, he also helped develop the laboratory design of a new $38 million analytical chemistry laboratory building at Battelle's Columbus headquarters.

"The Analytical Laboratory Managers Association is an excellent forum for interacting with other managers," Bowen said. "I've benefited greatly by sharing ideas with my peers and have come away with solid solutions on how to do my job better."

Bowen holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Syracuse University and a master's in Environmental Science from The Ohio State University. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the National Defense Industrial Association.
