![]() Barbara Kunz to Guide Strategy and Business Development at Battelle
February 19, 2007
Columbus, OH--Battelle has turned to an experienced executive with a history of leveraging technology in the biosciences and specialty chemicals industries to help advance its strategy and business development activities.
Barbara Kunz brings more than 20 years of experience to her position as Vice President, Strategic Planning and Business Development for Battelle Science and Technology International (BSTI), the largest wing of Battelle's operations.
"Barbara is an expert at business transformation and positive organizational change on a global scale with experience in Asia, Latin America, the United States, and the United Kingdom," said Greg Frank, Executive Vice President, BSTI. "She will be a great addition to our leadership team and will bring a valuable new perspective on the direction of our strategic business units."
Kunz most recently served as Senior Vice President and General Manager at Fisher Biosciences, where she was responsible for setting and executing the vision for Fisher Scientific International's suite of proprietary chemistry-related products and services.
"Battelle is very interested in international growth, as witnessed by its recent moves into South Korea and Japan," Kunz said. "My experience in establishing the vision, strategy, and organizational structure for businesses centered on innovation should be of benefit to Battelle in its efforts to grow its presence in markets all across the world--whether these are in the extremely competitive market in the United States or in countries such as Japan and Korea, where significant opportunities are tempered by business environments that are relatively difficult to negotiate.
"The key is to develop a sustainable strategy within the context of a large array of political, economical, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors," Kunz said. "Battelle's wherewithal from a technology perspective should stand us in good stead; however, our success will rely heavily on the confluence of sound assessment of the commercial opportunities and cultural nuances that often lie at the heart of making progress in the international arena. This is where I come in."
Battelle is the world's largest non-profit independent research and development organization, with 20,000 employees in more than 120 locations worldwide, including five national laboratories Battelle manages or co-manages for the U.S. Department of Energy.
