Don McConnell, President of Battelle Energy Technology, will address the Women’s International Network of Utility Professionals(WiNUP) at AEP Headquarters
Columbus, OH— Battelle seeks to assist the energy industry in facing an unprecedented period of change brought on by a combination of market and regulatory drivers. During the course of the next two decades, electric power supply and management will be driven by a combination of increased demand, a need to expand infrastructure, and the increased pressure from legislation aimed at reducing the overall carbon footprint of the entire power system.
The Women’s International Network of Utility Professionals (WiNUP) is concerned with these and other utility-related issues. To this end, WiNUP has asked Don McConnell, Battelle’s President of Energy Technology, to speak at their Ohio Chapter Meeting, which takes place at AEP Headquarters on Tuesday, April 21. WiNUP, which began in 1923 in New York as The Electrical Women’s Roundtable, Inc, has evolved to include 15 additional chapters as well as the Members-at-Large Chapter. Membership is drawn from industries such as utilities, universities, marketing companies, law firms and more.
At the dinner meeting McConnell will discuss how carbon constrained markets will influence the directions of electric power systems. Innovations in power generation, carbon capture and sequestration systems, along with diversification will be essential to lessening the impact of the energy system on the global climate. In order to adapt to all of the electric power systems’ changing factors, smart grids must be developed to create more effective dispatching of demand, providing early response and economic returns to utilities, which would be a low capital alternative to increasing generation and transmission assets.
