April 5, 2008—9am to noon, Clinton-Como City Park

Plant a tree.  If it’s done correctly and placed in the right spot, it helps everyone.
In anticipation of Earth Day and Arbor Day, the Battelle Rivers and Streams Beautification Team is partnering with the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and the Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW) to sponsor a volunteer community tree planting at Clinton-Como Park (301 West Pacemont Road, Columbus 43202) on Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon.  The project will proceed rain or shine.

More than 75 volunteers have signed up to help, including children and students.
The volunteers will be planting 1,450 native Ohio tree seedlings, including River Birch, Shagbark Hickory, maples, oaks, Tuliptree, Hackberry, Redbud, Sweetgum and Sycamore.  Most of the seedlings were purchased from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Neighbors of the Clinton-Como Park helped select the specific planting sites in the Park and will be helping with the tree planting.

Several other groups will pitch in, including students and teachers from the Metro High School, Cub Scout members, FLOW members, Battelle staff members, World Wide Compassion members and Columbus Recreation and Parks Department staff.

There will be a volunteer “thank you” lunch at noon at the planting site.  Information on the benefits of trees and information on the Columbus city parks will be available.

Contributors to this event include Battelle, City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, Keep Columbus Beautiful, Porter Wright Morris & Arthur and Courtney Miller.
