Aberdeen, MD--Battelle recently donated funds to support math and science education at two Harford County learning institutions.

A $20,000 donation was made to the Science and Mathematics Academy at Aberdeen High School to purchase science equipment for engineering, robotics, and biotechnology courses. Battelle has been a regular supporter of the Academy through financial contributions and volunteer hours since 2003. In addition, the Battelle donation will be used to provide a budget of $200 for each senior's capstone project.

Battelle also contributed $5,000 to Harford Community College to fund two tuition scholarships for students pursuing careers in math or science. These scholarships, called the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council's Battelle Scholarships, have helped a number of students pay for tuition over the last several years.

Battelle employs more than 400 people at the Battelle Eastern Science and Technology Center located in Aberdeen at the Higher Education and Applied Technology (HEAT) Center.

"We firmly believe that helping to educate our young people in math and science is crucial to the success of our economy in Harford County, the state of Maryland and in the U.S.," said Battelle's Warren Mullins, Vice President for Strategic Planning and Business Development. "We're glad to provide support whether it's through our staff volunteering time or through donations."
