James T. Jackson, who recently retired as the Commanding General for the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, has joined Battelle to help lead Homeland Security programs.

As Market Manager for the Battelle Office of Homeland Security, he is responsible for establishing long-term strategies to support customers in the Homeland Security arena. In addition, he is charged with creating key partnerships with other companies in the market.

Jackson, 54, has served in a wide variety of positions with the U.S. Army, including managing recovery operations at the Pentagon following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Prior to that he was the Deputy Commanding General for the 5th U.S. Army in San Antonio, Texas, directing operations and training for all Army Reserve and National Guard units west of the Mississippi.

Other posts have included: Assistant Division Commander for the 2nd Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea; Chief Executive Assistant for the Commander in Chief of U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Florida; Deputy Operations Officer for Special Operations Command in Tampa; and Commander of the 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Jackson, who will be based in Battelle's Crystal City offices, has a B.S. in Aerospace Technology from Kent State University and an M.S. in Personnel Management from Central Michigan University.
