Worldwide business revenue - including technology development, product development, and technology commercialization - totaled $945 million in 1996. During 1996, there were 4,965 projects in progress at Battelle for more than 1,365 industrial and government clients. Our staff of 7,163 technical, management, and support professionals provided leading-edge technology to meet the needs of clients in more than 33 countries. Six developments were selected among the 100 most significant new products worldwide by R&D Magazine, bringing Battelle's total to 53. The R&D 100 awards are considered the Nobel Prize of research and development. In 1996, 72 Battelle staff members were named on patents, 21 patents were issued to Battelle, and 178 Battelle staff were honored for their efforts in technology development and commercialization.
