Safety and Health Performance
 

Fiscal Year 2006 showed a 68% reduction in the rate of aggregated occupational injuries & illness, compared to our 1998 baseline performance, with severe injuries down 75%.

In addition, Occupational Hazards magazine recognized Pacific Northwest National Laboratory - managed by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy - as one of “America’s Safest Companies.”

In order to strengthen our culture of safety we continued our investment in extensive leadership and safety training, primarily focused at the management level.

Environmental Performance

Battelle exercises our environmental responsibility by complying with regulations, aggressively preventing pollution resulting from our operations and implementing comprehensive environmental management systems. The Battelle enterprise saves/avoids millions of dollars annually from its pollution prevention programs, accentuating its value to both the environment and to company costs.

This year our environmental management programs were re-certified under the new ISO 14001:2004 international standard and we continue to receive local and national awards for environmental stewardship.
