At Battelle, we believe that by harnessing resources through networking you can compile the assets needed to implement an initiative, but it is only through the introduction of disruptive concepts that systemic change is produced. We want to change the way our children are educated. We want them to reach the potential we know they have by immersing them in cross-curricular, project-based learning delivered by teachers trained to do so. The Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) is the vehicle through which we are endeavoring to ignite this systemic change – not because we want every child to become an engineer, but because we want every child to thrive in any career.
Managed by Battelle and a team of affiliates, the OSLN promotes Ohio’s growth in STEM education quality by building capacity for teaching and learning using a network-centric philosophy.
The OSLN objectives are to:
- Help launch and connect STEM “platform” schools in concert with the state of Ohio and regional community partners;
- Build an education innovation infrastructure that fuels, captures and spreads STEM initiatives within and across schools, regions and systems; and
- Drive scalable and sustainable STEM initiatives, incorporating scale and sustainability design factors as a core requirement for OSLN activities throughout all elements of project management.
OSLN is accomplishing these objectives by hosting and fostering the network culture and connectivity, and by providing key technical assistance in the form of professional development and technical consulting as each new school endeavors to open its doors.
