At Battelle, we believe in every student. We believe that every student has the capacity to master STEM content, and we believe that every student can become a productive, influential member of tomorrow’s STEM-based workforce. We also believe that the pedagogy and philosophy of STEM-based education is the means by which these students will achieve their potential.

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics, but what it teaches is far greater than the sum of its parts. Critical thinking learned through STEM education is applied across all disciplines, including literature, music and history.

If you think you are math and/or science challenged, perhaps the concepts just haven’t been presented in such a way that you can really relate. STEM curriculum is taught through project-based learning. Projects are often cross-curricular and involve solving numerous problems and challenges – not necessarily with equations and calculators, but by imagining what could be possible and then investigating paths to make those possibilities reality. Most often you work in teams or with a partner. Along the way you may discover through the application of math and science concepts, Web research, and good old trial and error that something you imagine is not possible – or you may discover that it is!

STEM schools are most often public schools. They draw students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, basing their admission on little more than an individual student’s will to achieve.

STEM education is for everyone – and that includes YOU!
