The International In Situ and On-Site Bioremediation Symposium integrates recent developments in risk assessment, fundamental research, and innovative engineering applications for both traditional and emerging contaminants. The Bioremediation Symposium offers a broad perspective on environmental biotechnology worldwide. When the first Symposium was held in 1991, bioremediation was an emerging discipline, and the meeting brought together an international assembly of researchers, engineers, and stakeholders from industry, academia, and government to help define and develop this new approach to environmental remediation. In subsequent Symposia, presentations have examined progress and introduced new concepts and recent advances in bioremediation tools, design, and management; the interaction of bioremediation with other remedial approaches; and global applications of bioremediation. Advances continue to improve the performance and reliability of microbial-based processes for site restoration, waste treatment, and pollution prevention. The Symposium is presented by Battelle, and several sponsors are contributing financial support.
Overview of the 2009 Symposium
The Tenth Bioremediation Symposium will be held May 5–8, 2009, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel. Seven short courses are planned for Tuesday, May 5. On Tuesday afternoon, exhibits and the poster display will open during the welcome reception, which will be followed by the plenary session. The technical program will begin on Wednesday morning, and platform talks and poster presentations will continue through early afternoon Friday. The Final Program (PDF) consists of 420 platform and poster presentations scheduled in 39 sessions, plus a panel discussion (“Sustainability in Remediation—Issues and Opportunities”). The Symposium Schedule provides an overview of the days and times of sessions and other events.
Meals, and breaks will be offered throughout the Symposium for the convenience of attendees and to provide them numerous opportunities to meet informally with one another. Receptions will be held on Tuesday evening and during the Wednesday and Thursday evening poster sessions. Wednesday through Friday, continental breakfasts and refreshment breaks will be provided. Buffet lunches will be served Wednesday and Thursday. All meals will be provided on site at no additional cost to program registrants and exhibit booth staff; guest meal tickets may be purchased on site at cost. There are several dining options in the hotel and a variety of restaurants and cafes in the adjacent Inner Harbor area, within walking distance of the hotel.
