The
International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds is organized and presented by Battelle.
Sponsors of the 2010 Conference include other leading organizations active in site remediation research and application. It is expected that the 2010 Conference will have attendance comparable to the 2008 Conference, which was attended by more than 1,750 scientists, engineers, regulators, and other environmental professionals representing universities, government site management and regulatory agencies, and R&D and manufacturing firms from 32 countries. The Monterey Conference Center and the adjoining
hotels, the Marriott and the Portola, adjoin
Fishermen’s Wharf and are within easy walking distance of
Cannery Row and the
Monterey Bay Aquarium. The
city and the beautiful Monterey Bay coastline provide additional recreational, dining, shopping, and sightseeing opportunities. In this picturesque setting, Conference attendees will find ample sightseeing, shopping, and dining options for their free time in the evenings and during the Wednesday afternoon recess.
Program Overview. The 2010 technical program will consist of approximately 850 platform and poster presentations in 65 technical sessions, as well as three panel discussions. The program focuses on the innovative application of existing or new technologies and approaches to address the challenges of characterization, treatment, and monitoring of chlorinated and other recalcitrant compounds in various environmental media. The sessions and panels are organized according to 13 major themes. Additional technical information will be provided by exhibits from an estimated 75 companies and government agencies engaged in remediation-related activities. The 12 short courses are scheduled on Sunday and on Wednesday afternoon. See the Schedule Overview for information on the sessions, courses, and other events scheduled each day. Receptions and other meals offered throughout the Conference will balance the intense program schedule and will afford attendees numerous opportunities to meet informally with one another.
Final Program. See the Final Program for program and schedule details as of April 30; any changes that become necessary after April 30 will be annotated on the schedule board at the Conference. By May 14, a link to the collected abstracts for all presentations as of April 30 will be sent to Conference technical program registrants for their use in planning which sessions and presentations to attend. As each technical program registrant arrives at the Conference, he or she will receive a printed copy of the Final Program and a CD-ROM containing the abstracts. The CD replaces the two-volume sets of abstracts distributed at previous Conferences, providing a searchable collection and significantly reducing the volume and weight of materials provided to registrants on site. Discontinuation of the paper copy of the abstract collection also prevents the consumption and ultimate disposal of a large quantity of printing materials.
Program Committee. The Conference Chairs are Keith Fields and G.B. Wickramanayake, both of Battelle. They wish to thank the Steering Committee for their assistance in developing the program.
