The International Conference on Remediation of Contaminated Sediments addresses the challenges of effectively combining scientific and engineering advances in sediments remediation and containment with assessment and management frameworks and governing policies and regulations to achieve effective environmental protection goals. Previous meetings in this series were held in Venice (2001 and 2003), New Orleans (2005), and Savannah (2007). The 2007 Conference was attended by 800 scientists, engineers, regulators, remediation site owners, and other environmental professionals, representing universities, government agencies, consultants, and R&D and service firms from around the world. The program consisted of more than 300 platform and poster presentations and four panel discussions.

The 2009 Sediments Conference
Planning is underway for the 2009 Conference, to be held in Jacksonville, Florida. In anticipation of continued growth in attendance, program, and exhibits, the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel has been selected as the Conference site. This beautiful hotel, located in the city center along the St. Johns River, will provide excellent space for all Conference events. The Jacksonville area contains numerous inland and coastal wildlife areas, golf resorts, and historical sites.

The Program Committee is developing the technical program.  Sessions and panel discussions will explore major issues in management and remediation of contaminated sediments; the program scope provides examples of the topics expected to be addressed.  Abstracts are requested by Jun 30, 2008.  However, abstractrs received by July 7 will be reviewed and considered for placement as platform talks or poster presentations.

Program Overview
Short courses will be offered on Monday, February 2.  Exhibits will open on Monday afternoon, and a welcome reception will be served. During the Plenary Session on Monday evening, the opening presentation will be given by Greg Marshall, executive producer and director of remote imaging at National Geographic.  The technical program will be conducted Tuesday through Thursday. Platform and poster presentations will be given in sessions organized and chaired by leaders in the sediments management community. Panel discussions will provide an opportunity for invited experts and practitioners to discuss and debate critical issues related to sediment assessment and management.

sediments_birdAs the program develops, information will be added to this Web site. The Preliminary Program brochure will be available in October 2008. The proceedings papers will be assembled after the Conference and published as a fully indexed CD-ROM; copies will be mailed to individuals whose Conference registrations included the proceedings.
