OverviewThe Sixth International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds will be held in May 2008, in Monterey, California. The Conference is sponsored and organized by Battelle. Fifteen government and private organizations active in site remediation research and application are co-sponsors of the 2008 Conference. The Conference Chair is Bruce M. Sass, Ph.D., of Battelle.
It is expected that the program for the 2008 Conference will be similar in size, with 50+ technical sessions, consisting of platform talks and poster presentations. Major issues in remediation will be explored by panel discussions. Several dozen companies, universities, and government agencies engaged in remediation-related work will provide exhibits. A student paper competition will be conducted, and short courses will be offered. The Call for Abstracts is now available. Abstracts to be considered for placement in the program are due July 31, 2007. The technical scope will focus on innovative application of existing and new technologies/approaches for characterizing, treating, and monitoring chlorinated and other recalcitrant compounds in various environmental media. The program will emphasize field applications and case studies, but many presentations will address laboratory, pilot, and modeling studies of innovative remediation and rational site-closure approaches. Presentations will address the full range of technologies—physical, chemical, biological, and thermal—that can be used to remediate sites contaminated by chlorinated solvents, PCBs, pesticides, heavy metals, explosives residues, and other recalcitrant compounds. Risk, regulatory, and site management issues associated with these technologies will be discussed. As the program develops, additional information will be posted at this Web site. The Preliminary Program brochure will be available in January 2008.
