Battelle Offers Superior Field Capabilities
Battelle’s field logistics and operations group is a diverse team of oceanographers, engineers, technicians, and survey operation specialists capable of conducting a variety of environmental and oceanographic field tasks. Battelle’s key research vessel is the 45-foot Aquamonitor. Specialized analyses and data acquisition are made possible by
SampTrac, an automated labeling and chain-of-custody system designed to track samples from the field to the lab and thorough analysis.
The Battelle Ocean Sampling System (BOSS), an integrated system for measurement and water collection designed to direct sampling in real time based on in situ profile information.
NAVSAM, a software application that integrates the ships navigation equipment with the CTD to provide real-time profiles of selected parameters.
Recent areas of experience include
- Water column monitoring
- Collection of discrete water column samples
- Shipboard filtration of samples for nutrient, chlorophyll a, and total suspended solids analysis
- Shipboard dissolved oxygen determination
- Acquisition, reduction, analysis of in situ hydrographic
measurements
- Sediment Surveys
- Sediment collection by grab sampler, box corer, vibracorer, or gravity corer
- Core logging and analysis
- Shipboard sieving of samples collected for infauna analysis
- An array of mooring deployments for stationary sediment traps and current meter installations, and caged mussels and semipermeable membrane devices in support of bioaccumulation testing
