Remediation Conference

Monterey Remediation of sites contaminated by chlorinated and other recalcitrant compounds is of increasing concern worldwide. A variety of remediation approaches are being studied or demonstrated. Scientists, engineers, regulators, and other environmental professionals from around the world will come together at Battelle’s Second International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds to present their findings and discuss potential future directions for remediation efforts. The conference will be held in Monterey, Calif., May 22-25, 2000, and will be chaired by Battelle’s Dr. Godage Wickramanayake and Arun Gavaskar. Conference co-sponsors and participating organizations include governmental, academic, and private organizations that are leaders internationally in site remediation research and application.

The preliminary program for the Conference consists of nearly 600 platform and poster presentations. The program encompasses the full range of technologies – physical, chemical, biological, and thermal – that have the potential to remediate sites contaminated by chlorinated solvents, PCBs, MTBE, pesticides, explosives residues, chemical warfare agents, and other recalcitrant compounds. Laboratory, pilot, and field study results, as well as natural attenuation/site monitoring and management, risk, regulatory, and policy issues will be discussed. In addition, exhibits will be prepared by several dozen organizations that provide remediation equipment or services.

The program complements Battelle’s other large environmental technology meeting, the International In Situ and On-Site Bioremediation Symposium. The two meetings are offered in alternate years.
