Battelle Announces Dr. Paul Boehm has rejoined Battelle as Vice President and senior scientist. In this capacity, he will focus on strengthening Battelle’s industrial consulting business. He is an internationally recognized environmental and marine scientist and an expert in marine pollution impact assessment and monitoring and environmental chemical forensics. Over the past 12 years as Vice President of Arthur D. Little, he has built major client relationships with the oil and gas companies worldwide, managing projects that range from expert witness/consulting in environmental forensic cases in Commencement Bay, to environmental impact assessments for new oil and gas developments in the Caspian Sea, Western Africa, and Latin America. He serves as a leading consultant for ExxonMobil’s Exxon Valdez damage assessment and litigation project.
Doctor Boehm earned his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in oceanography at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography and his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Rochester. Battelle Opens New CA Office and Welcomes Senior Research Scientist Battelle is pleased to announce that Ms. Virginia Lau has recently joined our Coastal Resources and Ecosystem management team as a Senior Research Scientist in our Bay Area office. Ms. Lau brings over 10 years’ experience in mathematical modeling and human health risk assessment. She is proficient in regulatory air dispersion modeling, soil infiltration modeling, probabilistic uncertainty analysis, and statistical analysis. Her experience in risk assessment has included risk evaluations related to hazardous waste incinerators, underground storage tank remediation, remedial investigations and feasibility studies, RCRA corrective measures, and litigation support. Ms. Lau will support Battelle’s efforts in Northern California with a particular focus on our current Navy contract. Ms. Lau was previously employed by Dames & Moore (now URS Corporation) for eight years where she conducted and managed a variety of projects. These projects included evaluations related to air dispersion modeling for hazardous compounds being emitted from a petroleum refinery; cancer risk evaluations of exposures from a fire in Louisiana; human health risk assessment on a petroleum jet fuel release; and human health and ecological risk assessment on 20 historical solid waste management units at an active petroleum refinery in Martinez, Calif.
