Battelle is guided by our mission to reinvest our profits for greater purpose. This was the vision of our founder, Gordon Battelle, and it is his words that guide our philanthropic efforts to support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. Through our efforts, we aim to inspire the next generation of leaders, whose contributions will advance our community and the public good. Solving what matters most for our clients and communities is what makes Battelle who we are and inspires us all in that we do.
We focus our philanthropic efforts to make the greatest impact. Annually, Battelle donates $8-11 million to charitable causes, with three quarters supporting education initiatives aligned to our four integrated STEM learning priorities. We concentrate our efforts on developing and spreading innovative STEM education practices, particularly through the leverage provided by state-based STEM networks.
Battelle employees are generous in support of causes that impact the neighborhoods, cities and regions where they live and work, both in monetary contributions and with their time and leadership. Our people live Gordon Battelle’s legacy every day.
In the coming year, Battelle employees worldwide will donate more than $1 million to over 1,300 individual nonprofit organizations through payroll deduction and year-round giving. Battelle will match these employee gifts dollar-for-dollar, resulting in a combined gift to charitable causes of more than $2 million.
Giving back is a core value at Battelle, and our employees are passionate about volunteering for the causes that matter most. Through our vibrant Team Battelle program, founded in 1992, employees have volunteered over one million hours to vital programs and projects in their communities. They have donated time, expertise and energy to arts, education and human service organizations, working side-by-side with their colleagues to make the greatest impact.
