Established: The Battelle CPHRE was established in 1991 and the AAS was established in 2000.
Staff: 143 staff members: 18 at the Battelle office and 125 at client facilities.
Capabilities: Office houses staff from Centers for Public Health Research and Evaluation (CPHRE) and the Atlanta Analytical Services (AAS) group of the Chemical and Advanced Materials Solutions product line. CPHRE provides research and evaluation in birth defects and developmental disabilities, chronic disease prevention and health promotion, environmental health, infectious diseases, terrorism preparedness and emergency response. AAS supports biomonitoring method development, validation and method transfer for emergency response, terrorism preparedness, exposure assessment, sample analyses and handling and micronutrient assessment in national and international settings.
Points of Pride: AAS nominated Atlanta staff members Lisa McWilliams and Kimberly Smith as Emerging
Scientists for their work in biomonitoring research. Virlyn Burse received Battelle’s 2006 Diversity Champion Award for his efforts in assembling a staff with rich cultural backgrounds typically underrepresented in the sciences.
Good Deeds: Battelle Atlanta staff members Eileen Miles, Veronica Wilson-McElprang and Debra and Michael Trinidad were nominated for Battelle’s 2006 Achievement Awards for their participation in an afterschool mentoring program.
