SENIOR MOMENTS
There's something about the energy in this school that interests people of many ages on many levels.
A few weeks ago, Nancy Johnston (Battelle's Volunteer Coordinator) and I attended a Battelle Senior Associates luncheon. We had such a great time with the Battelle retirees! They seem so happy and relaxed … just like all of us at Battelle (right … RIGHT???) … and they were having a good time together.
I enjoyed sharing Metro stories with the enthusiastic group and Nancy and I were excited by many retirees' strong desire to get involved, so we invited them all to come to Metro for one of our student-led "VIP" tours.
Yesterday we hosted 15 Senior Associates who visited with students and teachers and checked out the facilities. They were really impressed with the opportunities our students have today compared to when they attended school.
One remarked that the school's address (1929 Kenny Rd.) is the same as the year Battelle was founded-1929! (Incidentally, it also was the year he was born. Good things come in threes, right? Or is it bad things? Nevermind...)
Several of the Battelle retirees are making plans to help with tutoring, Engineering Club and with our plans to try to start a school newspaper next year.
