BTG AND BATTELLE JOIN FORCES TO COMMERCIALIZE AND MARKET INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES

BTG, a global leader in commercializing intellectual property (IP), and Battelle Memorial Institute, one of the world's leading technology development companies, announced today that they have agreed to collaborate in commercializing and marketing innovative technologies.

The relationship will combine BTG's expertise in managing and commercializing IP with Battelle's inventive resources and ability to turn technologies into marketable products. The BTG-Battelle agreement covers three main areas:

  • BTG will have the opportunity to commercialize new IP developed by Battelle's research groups in non-core applications. BTG has over 50 years experience in the management and commercialization of IP worldwide and has licensed technologies to over 200 companies in the last five years alone. Battelle performs R&D projects for more than 1,500 companies and government agencies. Its in-house research typically results in between 50-100 patented inventions each year.
  • BTG and Battelle will also jointly identify potentially valuable IP in physical and life sciences that could benefit from programs of added value development to help speed the route to market. BTG will locate and assess the IP for market value, and Battelle will supply development expertise to add value to this IP by applying its technical expertise in a range of areas. These include pharmaceutical pre-clinical testing, medical product device development, advanced materials modeling, polymer formulation, biotechnology, electronics systems, and information synthesis and visualization systems. BTG will then commercialize the technologies for high value returns through its commercialization networks.
  • Where the companies work together on selected complementary IP portfolios, they will also consider joint ventures, or other arrangements, where appropriate.

"Battelle has tremendous technical and development capabilities in complementary areas to BTG. By joining forces, we will be able to accelerate the development of early stage technologies across a range of technology areas" said Geoffrey Porges, BTG's Chief Operating Officer, Europe.

"Bringing technology to the marketplace is Battelle's focus," said Doug Olesen, Battelle's President and Chief Executive Officer. "We're pleased to work closely with a company of BTG's calibre - an international leader in technology commercialization."

Battelle's Chief Financial Officer Mark Kontos added, "Battelle sees this collaboration as a tremendous opportunity to combine our technology development skills with BTG's unparalleled commercialization expertise. Together we can bring a wider array of innovative products to the market than either company could by itself."
