Vitex Systems, Inc. and Techni-Met, Inc., have signed an agreement to develop manufacturing processes for flat panel display product structures based on Vitex engineered substrates. Vitex Systems was founded in November 1999 to commercialize the unique and proprietary Vacuum Polymer Technology (VPT) in-licensed and/or developed by Battelle. A major component of the Vitex business plan includes the invention, manufacturing, and sales of a family of fully engineered flexible substrates that provide a complete packaging solution for the manufacture of flexible information displays and light emitting devices. These products will provide unique value to users and to OEM manufacturers due to the incorporation of VPT. The first product offered to the market will contain a VPT created layer (Barix™) that provides an unprecedented level of gas and moisture barrier performance. Techni-Met is engaged in the development, custom engineering and manufacturing of products for electro-luminescent lamp; touchscreen; and radio frequency and electro-magnetic interference shielding applications. Techni-Met owns and operates an ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facility including vacuum coating machines, web converting operations, and analytical and evaluation capability. Techni-Met has extensive experience in a variety of vacuum coating and surface treatment technologies. "This agreement serves as a foundation for the supply chain model, and takes advantage of competitive strengths of both organizations to accelerate time to market of a new family of products," said Michael Sullivan, President of Vitex Systems and Jerry Scharr, Chairman of Techni-Met in a joint statement. "The agreement paves the way for the creation of the supply chain to deliver high performance flexible ultra-barrier substrates, by bringing the Vitex barrier technology out of the laboratory and into a world-class manufacturing environment. The demonstrated capability of Techni-Met to supply customers with consistent, high quality substrates provides Vitex with a strong manufacturing partner in the future. The unique performance attributes enabled by the use of VPT is expected to provide Techni-Met with innovative solutions to customer needs in both existing and future markets." Vitex Systems, Inc. is headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA. Techni-Met, Inc. is located in Windsor, CT.
