BATTELLE VOLUNTEERS WILL CUT PATHS AT PRAIRIE OAKS PARK

Battelle has always been known for forging new paths in the world of technology, but a group of Battelle people will literally be forging a new footpath Saturday in Prairie Oaks Metro Park.

About 30 people from Battelle's Rivers and Streams Beautification Team will be helping to cut a new trail at the newest park in the Metro Parks system, which is located near Battelle's West Jefferson facility. Boy Scout Troop 148 from Hilliard will assist the team.

This volunteer group has participated in river clean ups along the Olentangy River and the Big Darby Creek and has planted over 2,500 trees and seedlings during the last two years. The group will work from 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. then hold a brief educational session and a cookout. They will meet and register on the right side of Rt. 142 approximately 0.2 miles north of the I-70 exit 85.

Nearly one-third of Battelle staff members participate in Team Battelle, a staff-driven volunteer program that includes 44 projects (including the Rivers and Streams Beautification Team) ranging from civic causes to human services, education and the arts.

Battelle serves industry and government in the areas of technology development, laboratory management, and technology commercialization. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Battelle has annual revenues of nearly $1 billion, has operations at more than 70 locations and clients in 30 countries. It counts as its successes the development of the office copier machine (Xerox), pioneering work on the compact disc, medical technology breakthroughs, and fiber optic advancements for telecommunications.
