Battelle announced today that Jeffrey Wadsworth will join the technology development and commercialization organization as a senior executive, focusing on helping build its broad technology and business base in government and commercial markets. His appointment is effective in early August. Wadsworth, 52, most recently has served as Deputy Director for Science and Technology at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. An internationally known metallurgist, Wadsworth joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1992 as Assistant Associate Director for Research and Program Development and also served as Associate Director for Chemistry and Materials Science before being named Deputy Director in 1996. "Jeff Wadsworth is an outstanding addition to the Battelle team," said Carl F. Kohrt, Battelle President and CEO. "His science and technology credentials are outstanding and his knowledge of government and commercial markets will be of great value to Battelle and its customers." Wadsworth holds B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Metallurgy from Sheffield University in England. He also completed a one-year post doctoral fellowship at Stanford University. In 1987, Wadsworth was elected a Fellow of the America Society for Metals for "outstanding contributions to design and manufacturing methods for steels and refractory metals, for the development of superplasticity in aluminum alloys, and for the study of the history and metallurgy of Damascus Steels." He was elected a Fellow of the Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society in 2000. Wadsworth has authored or co-authored 260 scientific papers on a wide range of science and technology topics, holds four patents, and is the co-author of the book Superplasticity in Metals and Ceramics, published by Cambridge Press. Battelle develops and commercializes technology for government and industry. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, the organization has staff at 100 locations and operates in more than 30 countries.
