Battelle San Antonio Operations has moved into a new office to accommodate its growing staff.

An open house is scheduled for 3-5 p.m., March 27, at 4100 E. Piedras Drive in San Antonio. Members of San Antonio City Council and the Mayor have been invited to attend.

The new 4,000-square-foot office is needed for the rapidly expanding San Antonio area staff, which has grown from one person in July 2001 to more than 24 specialized employees today.

Battelle San Antonio Operations has responsibility for activities at Brooks City-Base, Lackland Air Force Base, and Fort Sam Houston, actively supporting the following areas of business:

  • Providing chemical, biological and radiological defense systems acquisition and program management and subject matter expertise to the 311th Human Systems Wing at Brooks City-Base.
  • Providing information technology systems support and a Beta System test site to the 37th Training Wing at Lackland Air Force Base.
  • Providing contingency planning and facilitating exercises and analysis to the U.S. Army Medical Command at Fort Sam Houston.
  • Initiating various homeland security initiatives with federal and local government agencies.

Battelle San Antonio Operations also provides a satellite office for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory personnel who support the Joint Information Operations Center, Information Warfare Analysis Division, and the Air Intelligence Agency at Lackland Air Force Base.

"We're committed to the San Antonio community, to the military community, and to the nation, and we intend to play a pivotal role in their mission and successes in the interest of science and national defense," said Jerry Fager, manager of the San Antonio Operations.

The office has annual sales in excess of $2.7 million and is a strong corporate citizen in Bexar County, contributing to, and volunteering for, a number of local charitable causes.

Battelle is a global leader in science and technology. It develops and commercializes technology and manages laboratories for government and commercial customers. Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Battelle and the national labs it manages or co-manages have 16,000 staff members and conduct more than $2 billion in annual research and development.
