Senior representatives from eight international research institutes within the Global Research Alliance are meeting in Columbus this week to generate ideas for addressing difficult energy challenges around the world.
These research institutes are part of the Global Research Alliance (GRA), formed in 2002 to combine unique experiences and an understanding of specific in-country problems and technology needs, in a search for innovative solutions to global quality of life challenges. Battelle, the only North American member of the GRA, is hosting the meeting.
The goal of the four-day workshop, June 16-19, is to identify major international energy needs that impact people around the globe, particularly in less-developed parts of the world, and to seek innovative technology solutions that will find a ready market, said Rich Adams, Battelle's Senior Vice President for International Partnerships. The emphasis will be on key energy technologies that would facilitate development consistent with the UN adopted Millennium Development Goals.
The workshop, called the Global Research Alliance Energy Technology Workshop, represents a unique gathering of experts from the world's most eminent research and technology institutes.
Of the 21 senior management and technical leaders participating, seven are from Battelle and the others from the leading research and technology institutes in their respective countries. They include:
