RUDY BARNES JOINS BATTELLE'S WASHINGTON, D.C. GOVERNMENT RELATIONS OFFICE

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Rudy Barnes has joined Battelle's Office of External Relations as Director of Government Relations for Department of Energy Programs, Battelle announced today.

Barnes will represent Battelle's Department of Energy sector to the Executive and Legislative branches of the U.S. government.

He also will work with senior management at Battelle's corporate headquarters, and represent the labs that Battelle manages and co-manages for the U.S. Department of Energy. Those include the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He will work on strategies regarding budgets and program development in the areas of national security, energy, environment, science, and transportation programs.

Barnes spent the past five years serving as Legislative Director for Congressman John Spratt of South Carolina, the ranking member of the House Budget Committee and a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee. Prior to that, Barnes worked as a consultant for Hagler Bailly, Inc. and Apogee Research.

Barnes, 35, has a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and a master's degree in Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government.
