RICH ROSEN TO LEAD BATTELLE EFFORTS TO PROMOTE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIPS IN OHIO

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Rich Rosen will lead Battelle's efforts to establish productive partnerships with industry, government, and educational institutions, Battelle President and CEO Carl Kohrt announced today.

Rosen, in the newly created corporate position of Vice President for External Business Relations, will initially focus heavily on leading Battelle's support in projects to expand education and advanced research infrastructure in the Greater Columbus area, working closely with The Ohio State University, the city of Columbus, and other community partners.

"Battelle can be of great assistance to the Columbus community and the state of Ohio through our understanding of how to manage the cycle of taking science from basic research to practical applications of economic and societal value," Kohrt said. "Battelle is stepping forward to provide Rich Rosen's expertise to help drive the progress toward stronger research and technology collaborations in areas where Battelle staff work and live."

Karen A. Holbrook, President of The Ohio State University, said Battelle's major leadership commitment will help drive the creation of new education and research capabilities, with an emphasis on leveraging the region's considerable science and technology assets. "This has already started in the life sciences area and will expand more broadly with this step from Battelle," Holbrook said. "Rich has been instrumental in developing and promoting a strong partnership between OSU and Battelle, which has helped us receive more than $30 million in new research grants."

"Rich Rosen's leadership in co-chairing the community's life sciences initiative with OSU's Dr. Fred Sanfillipo is invaluable," said Ty Marsh, President and CEO, Greater Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce. "His knowledge of research, economic development, and creating alliances with academic institutions will be instrumental in achieving our regional economic growth strategy."

"I'm very excited to have this opportunity," Rosen said. "Strong public-private partnerships are crucial to the future of this region. I look forward to bringing Battelle's expertise to the table."

Rosen, who has been with Battelle for 23 years, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Kettering University and a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering from The Ohio State University. Most recently, he led Battelle's commercial health and life science businesses. He participates on a variety of state, local, and private boards, including The Columbus Business Technology Center, Omeris, The Columbus Chamber Music Society, Reservoir Venture Partners Life Science Advisory Board, Cleveland Clinic Foundation's Industrial Advisory Committee, Foundation Medical Partners Advisory Board, Electrosols Ltd., R&D Magazine Editorial Board, and The Wellington School.
