BATTELLE AWARDS $3,600 IN EDUCATIONAL GRANTS TO WELLBORN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN ANNISTON

ANNISTON, Al-Battelle announced today that Wellborn Elementary School has been awarded $3,600 in educational grants for science and mathematics laboratory materials and classroom supplies.

Teacher grants are awarded to Julie Kochan, Margaret Aderholdt, Ellen Cannon, and Penny Woodford. Grants were also awarded for equipment for the school's mathematics and science labs and Science Club.

Battelle is a subcontractor to Westinghouse Anniston and manages laboratory facilities for the U.S. Army's Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility (ANCDF).

"These teachers are seeking ways to improve their classroom instruction so students will be prepared for the future. We are delighted that we can help them achieve these goals," said Pamela Jenkins, Westinghouse Anniston Operations Support Manager and Battelle site manager.

"Battelle has a long history of supporting education in the science, mathematics, and technology areas. We are delighted to provide teachers the opportunity to carry out creative and innovative classroom experiences with their students," Jenkins said.

Located about 60 miles east of Birmingham, Ala., ANCDF is designed to destroy 2,254 tons of chemical nerve (GB, VX) and mustard (HD, HT) agent contained in thousands of munitions stored at Anniston Army Depot.
