BATTELLE APPOINTS DEAN SLOCUM AS OIL AND GAS MARKET MANAGER

WALTHAM, MA - Battelle is pleased to announce Dean Slocum as the new market manager of Battelle's Oil and Gas Market segment. In this capacity, Slocum will lead the efforts in bringing all of Battelle's capabilities to its current and future oil and gas clients.

Slocum is an expert in the area of environmental, health, and safety (EHS). He has worked closely with senior managers and operating groups of global energy industries over the last 20 years to help them develop and implement innovative solutions to their most complex environmental, social, reputation, and strategic challenges. For example, he has helped BP retain its license to operate in Colombia in the face of international environmental and social challenges; led the development and implementation of a new EHS organization and strategy at Petrobras after a high-profile oil spill; facilitated an industry-wide evaluation and guidance document for API that establishes a platform for oil and gas companies to improve sustainability reporting practices; and directed initial studies, planning and conceptual design of a world-class technology institute for Mexico's national petroleum institute.

Prior to joining Battelle, Slocum was a director of Arthur D. Little's Energy Industry Practice and EHS Functional Practice in Houston, Texas, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. There he led global strategy assignments for energy industry ventures worldwide; built and managed account relationships to anticipate, understand, and meet client needs; managed teams of senior EHS professionals; and established new practices/offices in emerging markets.

Slocum received his MPA in public administration/public health from the University of Hartford and his BA in sociology from Bates College.
