Columbus, Ohio-The American Petroleum Institute and the Ohio technology firm Battelle today announced creation of a unique training program to encourage wide use of new computer software for estimating greenhouse gas emissions.
The two organizations will provide workshops, free technical support and a Web site (http://ghg.api.org) for SANGEATM, the new software originally developed by ChevronTexaco with the assistance of Battelle experts.
ChevronTexaco transferred SANGEATM to API for free distribution to other oil and natural gas companies seeking to accurately estimate and report their greenhouse emissions.
"The oil and gas industry is a world leader in developing emissions estimation tools," said Bob Greco, API's director of policy analysis and climate change. "Now, thanks to this partnership with Battelle, companies can acquire and learn how to use them at low cost."
Battelle Vice President Dr. Bernhard Metzger added, "Our Web site, tech support and training will make the industry's emission estimation tools accessible and user-friendly for every company."
The software is to be used with API's emissions estimation tool-the Compendium of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Estimation Methodologies for the Oil and Gas Industry- which also is free.
To obtain the SANGEATM software and find out about training and free tech support, contact API's Hazem Arafa at (202) 682-8506 or arafa@api.org or Battelle's Bernhard Metzger at (781) 869-1409 or metzgerb@battelle.org.
Program details also are on the SANGEATM Web site at http://ghg.api.org which provides the API Compendium, a software user guide, frequently asked questions, and a portal to GHG Web sites.
API is a trade association for the U.S. oil and natural gas industry based in Washington, D.C. Battelle is a global science and technology enterprise headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. It develops and commercializes technology, and manages laboratories for customers. Battelle is a member of API.
