KUGEL JOINS BATTELLE TO SUPPORT AIR FORCE BUSINESS IN DAYTON
Columbus, Ohio--Daniel L. Kugel has joined Battelle, one of the world's largest independent research and development organizations, to lead a key part of its national security division.
Kugel recently retired after serving 34 years with the U.S. Air Force, where he focused on research, development, and acquisition.
As Vice President for Air Force Business Development, Kugel will run Battelle's Dayton Operations office and serve as the key account manager for the Research, Development, and Acquisition account. As such, he will guide Battelle's activities with the Aeronautical Systems Center at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio; the Electronics Systems Center at Hanscom AFB in Massachusetts; the Air Armament Center at Elgin AFB in Florida; the Space and Missile Systems Center in California; and the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson.
Kugel received a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Columbia University and a MS in Biomedical Engineering from The Ohio State University.
Most recently he was the chief of the Program Integration Division of the Plans and Programs Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB and prior to that led the Homeland Defense and Combat Support Sector in that directorate. He was the Deputy Program Director for the B-2 and the Advanced Cruise Missile as well as Program Director for the Non-Developmental Airlift Aircraft.
Kugel has received numerous awards during his long career with the Air Force and has been an active participant and leader in various civic endeavors. He has received former Vice President Gore's "Hammer Award" for re-inventing government as well as two Exceptional and three Meritorious Civilian Service Awards.
