BATTELLE TEAMS WITH COMPUTER VISION COMPANY TO TACKLE SECURITY ISSUES

Columbus, Ohio--Battelle has joined forces with Great Britain's leading computer vision company to develop and deploy next-generation "specific object recognition" capabilities for the world's security and defense communities.

The agreement with OmniPerception Ltd. pairs Battelle's in-house technology and systems expertise with OmniPerception's revolutionary image processing technology to create a new range of intelligent computer vision solutions.

Best known for its unique automatic facial recognition technology-for identity cards, biometric passports and other security initiatives-OmniPerception also is the world's leading supplier of automatic market research tools for the analysis of TV and film footage. The collaboration with Battelle further extends OmniPerception's core technology to intelligent computer vision tools in the national security arena.

The collaboration with OmniPerception adds to Battelle's portfolio of high-tech and high-value national security solutions, said retired General Jim Jackson, Director and Vice President for the Battelle Joint and Inter-Agency Market Group.

"The Battelle team is looking forward to working with Omni to bring this project to fruition," Jackson said. "The benefits of our joint efforts should significantly impact on the defense and homeland security communities."

"At a time when cooperation in security matters is so evidently a global priority, it's very good to be working with American friends and colleagues in a project as important as this one," said OmniPerception Chief Executive David McIntosh. "By combining Omni's image processing capability with Battelle's in-house technology and expertise, what we are looking for is a dramatic change in the automatic scene understanding and specific object recognition capabilities available to defense and security personnel throughout the free world."
