RUSS AUSTIN TO BE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, GENERAL COUNSEL, AND BOARD SECRETARY AT BATTELLE
Columbus, Ohio--Russ Austin is being promoted to Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Board Secretary at Battelle. Austin has been Battelle's Associate General Counsel for almost five years and has 20 years experience in the legal field.
Austin will assume his new responsibilities Aug. 1. He succeeds Jerry Bahlmann, who is retiring from Battelle after 30 years of service.
"I am pleased that Russ Austin is stepping into this extremely important position and excited about what he brings to this role," said Battelle President and CEO Carl Kohrt. "His wealth of experience, including as a partner for two major law firms and as acting general counsel for a large technology company, make him the perfect choice for Battelle."
During his time at Battelle, Austin has managed legal matters at both the corporate and business unit levels. He has overseen a staff of lawyers providing oversight for Battelle's National Security, Health and Life Sciences, and Energy, Transportation and Environment Divisions, as well as the Intellectual Property (IP), IP Strategy, Mergers, Acquisitions and Tax, and Records Management departments.
In addition, he has provided valuable input into Battelle's commercialization strategy, international initiatives, corporate governance and compliance issues, risk management, and government contracting matters.
Bahlmann was an important figure at Battelle for three decades, Kohrt said.
"Jerry Bahlmann has contributed to Battelle's success in a wide variety of ways and will certainly be missed," said Kohrt. "I congratulate him on a job well done and believe I speak for everyone at Battelle when I wish him all the best in his retirement. He leaves an imprint on Battelle and the Central Ohio business and charitable communities that is unmistakably positive."
