Battelle is seeking stakeholders to participate in a three-year pilot program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to verify the performance of commercially available air, water, and soil monitoring systems.
Battelle recently was awarded a $2.6 million cooperative agreement from the EPA to coordinate the pilot. The pilot will enable technology manufacturers, technology users, and environmental regulators to obtain objective and credible data about how the technologies perform.
Battelle is designing a verification strategy, including development of verification protocols, test plans, and verification reports. Stakeholder advisory groups will provide input into these areas for the duration of the pilot. The stakeholders will also be involved in identifying technology needs and reviewing verification results.
Karen Riggs, Battelle's Project Manager, said Battelle is seeking knowledgeable individuals who can commit to carefully reviewing and commenting on pilot documents, and participate in five or six meetings in the next three years. The first priority is to identify stakeholders for air and water monitoring technologies.
Parties interested in participating in the pilot as a stakeholder may submit their own names or recommend others. Stakeholders can come from such groups as the EPA and other federal agencies; other regulatory agencies; regulated communities; technology vendors and developers; technology users; environmental groups; research institutions; professional/trade associations; financial investment groups; insurance underwriters; and public and private sector associations.
Interested parties should contact Gretchen Hund at 206-528-3338; or via e-mail at: hund@Battelle.org.
